Russia Eyes India-Operated Chabahar Port
News: Russia is increasingly focusing on India-operated Chabahar Port as a strategic gateway to South Asia and a key pillar of emerging Eurasian trade routes.
Moscow plans to integrate Chabahar into the International North–South Transport Corridor (INSTC), a multimodal network linking India, Iran, Russia, and Europe.
The move supports Russia’s efforts to diversify trade corridors amid Western sanctions while strengthening India’s access to Central Asia and Europe by bypassing Pakistan.
Iran stands to gain as a major transit hub, with much of the corridor passing through its territory.
Leaders from Iran and Russia have called for faster implementation, citing global supply-chain disruptions. Chabahar’s inclusion could reduce transit time, lower costs, and reshape regional trade dynamics.
