India Strengthens Strategic Supply Chains
News: India is stepping up efforts to strengthen supply chain resilience across strategic industries, aiming to reduce dependence on overseas suppliers amid geopolitical disruptions and concentrated sourcing risks. The government is focusing on energy, fertilisers, electronics, semiconductors, pharmaceuticals, medical devices and critical minerals.
Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal said initiatives include expanding domestic production, diversifying imports, boosting refining and recycling capacity, and strengthening renewable energy and critical mineral supply chains.
The Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme is also driving manufacturing expansion, with approved projects attracting over ₹2.40 lakh crore in investments and generating more than ₹22.66 lakh crore in production and sales. Mobile phones, pharmaceuticals, telecom equipment and medical devices have recorded significant localisation. The strategy signals India’s shift from import substitution toward resilient, diversified and strategically secure supply chains.
