Trump Shifts Focus to Gulf Trade
News: US President Donald Trump has withdrawn his proposal to impose a 20% transit fee on cargo ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz, opting instead to strengthen economic ties with Gulf nations through trade and investment agreements.
Trump said the proposed fee would be replaced by new trade and investment partnerships following discussions with Middle East leaders.
While specific agreements have not yet been disclosed, he indicated that Gulf investments in the United States would be significant. The move eases concerns for the global shipping industry, as the International Maritime Organization had opposed imposing fees on international waterways. Trump also confirmed that the Strait of Hormuz would remain open for global commercial shipping, except for vessels linked to Iran, which would continue to face a full blockade under the new policy.
