GE Aerospace Targets $400 Million in India Sourcing
News: GE Aerospace plans to nearly double its spending with Indian suppliers, from about $200 million in 2025 to $400 million by 2030, citing rising aviation demand.
The company will buy larger volumes of existing components and add new ones to its Indian supply chain, which already includes 17 global suppliers such as Tata Group, Mahindra, HAL, and Godrej, alongside more than 2,000 local suppliers.
Its Pune plant produces aircraft-engine components for global operations, and its Bengaluru Technology Centre handles engineering and research. An EY report released alongside the announcement projects India’s annual domestic passenger traffic rising from 340 million in FY 2025-26 to 1.1 billion by 2040, a key driver behind the expanded sourcing. The plan builds on GE’s existing defence work with HAL, including F404 engines for the Tejas Mk1, with a 2023 MoU covering potential F414 engine manufacturing in India for the Tejas Mk2, subject to further agreements.
For Indian aerospace component manufacturers and SMEs, the expanded sourcing target signals real near-term order growth, though increased sourcing volume alone does not mean full domestic production of aircraft engines is imminent.
