India Urges Action to Secure Hormuz
News: India has urged urgent international action to secure safe navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, citing rising risks to global trade and energy flows amid Middle East tensions.
At the United Nations General Assembly, envoy Harish P stressed that attacks on commercial shipping are unacceptable and called for de-escalation through dialogue.
The strait carries nearly 20% of global oil supply, making disruptions a major threat to energy markets, especially for import-dependent Asian economies like India.
The government also highlighted concerns over seafarer safety, including Indian crew members affected by recent incidents. India’s intervention reflects its focus on safeguarding energy security, protecting citizens and supporting international maritime law amid growing geopolitical uncertainty.
