India Has Limited Time to Capitalize on China Supply Chain Shift, Says CEA V. Anantha Nageswaran

India Faces Brief Opportunity to Benefit from China Supply Chain Diversification: CEA

India Must Act Fast Amid

News: India has a limited opportunity to benefit from the global shift away from China, Chief Economic Adviser V. Anantha Nageswaran warned during a presentation to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Finance.

He said China has effectively criminalised supply-chain due diligence and penalised companies relocating manufacturing, creating challenges for businesses seeking diversification.

Nageswaran emphasized that India must act quickly to attract companies looking to reduce dependence on China, as the window of opportunity may be short. The presentation highlighted three major forces reshaping the global economy: great-power competition, the fracture of the Western alliance, and China’s manufacturing dominance.

It also noted that China’s trade surplus surpassed a record $1.2 trillion in 2025, reinforcing its global influence. The CEA called for a more proactive and strategic policy framework to help India capitalize on evolving geopolitical and supply-chain dynamics.
