India and US Edge Closer to Trade Deal Amid Push for Early Finalisation
News: India and the United States are moving closer to finalizing a Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA), with US President Donald Trump stating that both countries are “very close” to reaching a deal following discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the G7 Summit.
The agreement aims to strengthen economic cooperation, improve market access, enhance supply chain resilience, and expand bilateral trade.
Recent negotiations between Indian officials and the US Trade Representative’s office have accelerated progress, with the first phase of the deal expected as early as mid-July. The trade framework includes tariff reductions, digital trade cooperation, and measures to address non-tariff barriers. Both nations aim to increase bilateral trade to US$500 billion, creating new opportunities across manufacturing, technology, energy, agriculture, and digital services.
