AI Could Save ₹20,000 Crore in Ports

News: Gourav Vallabh, member of the Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Council, said India must fast-track AI adoption in ports, estimating potential savings of ₹20,000 crore in cargo handling and ₹15,000 crore annually in logistics costs.

Speaking at the AI Impact Summit, he stressed that AI can significantly enhance efficiency as 95% of India’s trade by volume moves via maritime routes.

While logistics costs have fallen to 7.97% of GDP and port capacity is growing 13.5% annually, India still lags global leaders. Vallabh said intelligent, tech-enabled ports are vital for the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision. Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone also proposed a digital “virtual concierge” platform to streamline port coordination.
