Dedicated Freight Corridor Records Strong September Performance
News: The Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India (DFCCIL) operated 13,833 trains in September 2026, split roughly evenly between the Eastern corridor (7,033) and Western corridor (6,800), moving a combined 19.7 billion gross tonne km of freight.
That works out to an average of about 461 trains a day, up from roughly 443 a day in August.
Within the month, the network set a new single-day interchange record with Indian Railways on October 6, exchanging 946 trains, beating the previous high of 929 set four days earlier. With the full 2,843 km DFC network now operational, the Western corridor’s completed final sections give it a direct rail link to JNPT, India’s busiest container port, and a planned Dankuni-Surat link connecting the Eastern and Western corridors has begun detailed project work.
For shippers moving bulk and containerised freight along the Delhi-Mumbai and Delhi-Kolkata corridors, the rising daily train averages and record interchange volumes point to a freight network still adding usable capacity each month rather than plateauing after its initial completion.
