Flash Floods Damage Nepali Roads, Delaying Cross-Border Cargo Movement
News: Flash floods in Nepal damaged and flooded roads leading from the Sonauli border crossing in Maharajganj, Uttar Pradesh, causing a 16-kilometre queue of cargo trucks waiting to enter Nepal.
The backup extended toward Nautanwa, disrupting traffic on the connecting national highway. Officials warned the situation could worsen if road connectivity inside Nepal is not restored quickly.
Goods movement toward Kathmandu and other Nepali destinations faced significant delays as multiple routes remained affected. Security and police personnel were deployed to regulate vehicle movement at the border, with NDRF and SDRF teams active in flood-affected areas and heightened monitoring along embankments in neighbouring Kushinagar district.
