Thiruvananthapuram Airport Records 41% Growth in Domestic Cargo

Kerala Hub Eyes Multimodal Link with Vizhinjam Seaport

Thiruvananthapuram Airport cargo growth

News: Thiruvananthapuram International Airport recorded a 41% increase in domestic cargo handling during the first five months of FY 2026-27 compared to the same period last year.

The airport currently processes approximately 350 metric tonnes of domestic cargo per month. The growth comes as the nearby Vizhinjam International Seaport ramps up export-import operations.

Industry observers note that proximity between the airport and the seaport could enable stronger air-sea cargo connectivity, allowing shippers to choose transport modes based on shipment urgency and cargo characteristics.

For supply-chain planners in South India, the development positions Thiruvananthapuram as an emerging multimodal logistics node, potentially reducing dependence on Chennai and Cochin for time-sensitive cargo movement in Kerala and giving exporters an additional air-sea combination for reaching global markets faster than all-ocean routings alone.
