Maharashtra Plans Rail Freight Corridor Linking JNPT
News: Maharashtra is planning a dedicated rail freight corridor to connect Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) and the upcoming Vadhvan Port with the Samruddhi Expressway, aiming to strengthen logistics connectivity and reduce freight transportation costs.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said the corridor will utilise land already reserved for railway infrastructure along the 701-km expressway.
The proposed network will link major ports with inland logistics hubs, including dry ports at Jalna and Wardha, before extending to Gadchiroli. The initiative is designed to improve Maharashtra’s integration with global supply chains and expand the benefits of port-led development beyond coastal regions. The project is also expected to support exports, manufacturing growth, and investments while enhancing the state’s position as a major logistics and industrial hub.
