Indian Railways Freight Corridor Peaks
News: Indian Railways has set a new freight benchmark as the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) recorded its highest-ever single-day freight interchange, reflecting rising efficiency and industry reliance on rail logistics.
Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited credited improved traffic planning, digital signalling, and tighter coordination with Indian Railways zones for smoother operations, faster turnarounds, and reduced congestion on conventional routes.
Bulk cargo shifts to DFCs have also freed passenger capacity. Momentum is building as the Western DFC nears full readiness, with the final 102-km Jawaharlal Nehru Port–Vaitarna link expected by March, enabling seamless port-to-hinterland movement.
The 2,843-km Eastern and Western DFCs now form a high-capacity logistics backbone, with plans underway for three more corridors.
