Vizhinjam International Seaport Emerges as a Maritime Leader in India
News: Vizhinjam International Seaport is emerging as a major maritime hub, achieving the highest cargo volume among 15 major ports in southern and eastern India in February.
The port handled 78,833 TEUs across 40 vessels, surpassing Chennai Port, despite beginning trial operations just eight months ago. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan emphasized the state’s commitment to making Vizhinjam a global port leader.
The port is set to receive MSC Mia, a 24,000-TEU vessel from the Jade service, further boosting its commercial potential. Currently handling six to seven ships daily, Vizhinjam is solidifying its role in India’s trade and logistics sector, reinforcing Kerala’s rising prominence in global maritime trade.
