News: Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) will begin commercial operations on December 25, adding major aviation and logistics capacity to the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.

In Phase 1, the airport will handle 0.5 million tonnes of cargo annually, scaling up to 3.25 million tonnes in later phases, positioning NMIA as a key air cargo hub for pharmaceuticals, perishables, and manufacturing exports.

Developed by NMIAL—a JV between MIAL and CIDCO—the greenfield airport will ease congestion at Mumbai’s existing airport and serve as the region’s second aviation gateway.

Modern, automated infrastructure and a focus on sustainability aim to improve turnaround times. Strategic road and proposed metro links will enhance connectivity, driving trade, jobs, and long-term regional growth.
