NITI Aayog on Critical Minerals Supply Chain
News: NITI Aayog has convened a high-level stakeholder consultation to assess India’s future demand for critical minerals and strengthen supply chain resilience as the country accelerates its clean energy transition and advanced manufacturing ambitions.
The consultation brought together government officials, industry leaders, researchers, and academic experts to evaluate future mineral requirements, identify supply chain vulnerabilities, and enhance domestic capabilities in exploration, processing, refining, and recycling.
According to NITI Aayog, India’s cumulative demand for critical energy transition minerals could reach 169 million tonnes under the Net Zero Scenario by 2070, with battery minerals accounting for a major share. The discussions also highlighted India’s dependence on imports and emphasized diversifying supply sources, expanding domestic value chains, increasing research and development, and improving institutional coordination to ensure long-term mineral security and sustainable economic growth.
