New US Tariff Raises Questions
News: Revised US tariffs have come into force after the Supreme Court of the United States struck down key elements of President Donald Trump’s earlier global tariff regime.
The court ruled that the use of a 1977 emergency law to impose country-specific duties exceeded presidential authority. In response, the White House introduced a temporary 10% flat tariff on imports, covering about $1.2 trillion in goods, with plans to potentially raise it to 15%.
The measure will remain for 150 days unless extended by Congress. India is closely monitoring developments, with Piyush Goyal saying trade talks will resume once US policy clarity emerges, as both countries continue discussions toward a bilateral trade deal.
