Indo Pacific Trade Pact Loses Relevance
News: The Global Trade Research Initiative (GTRI) says the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity (IPEF) is losing relevance under Donald Trump’s aggressive trade strategy, which prioritises tariffs and bilateral deals over multilateral cooperation.
India participates in IPEF’s supply chain, clean economy and fair economy pillars, but has stayed out of the trade pillar.
While the framework aims to strengthen supply chain resilience and reduce overdependence on China, GTRI notes that China remains deeply entrenched in critical components and raw materials.
The think tank says IPEF offers opportunities for India, but real gains will depend more on domestic reforms, infrastructure improvements and stronger manufacturing competitiveness.
