Indian Government Plans to Transform India Post into a Logistics Giant

News: NEW DELHI: The goal of the Indian government’s transformation Indian Post into a full-service logistics company is to increase the company’s revenue by 50–60% within the next three to four years.

Union Telecom Minister Shri Jyotiraditya Scindia disclosed that the postal department currently generates an annual revenue of Rs 12,000 crore during his speech at the Public Affairs Forum of India event.

Minister Scindia announced plans to expand Indian Post services, focusing on rural and isolated areas. The shift aims to modernize logistics operations, moving beyond traditional mail services by optimizing routes and using multiple transport options. This transformation will enable Indian Post to offer comprehensive logistics solutions, especially in remote regions.

Additionally, the government is investing Rs 48,000 crore in road infrastructure in the Northeast. Efforts are also underway to bring mobile coverage to 25,000 unconnected villages, with 6,000 in the Northeast, through the USO Fund, with mobile towers expected by mid-2025.
