Government to Leverage AI for Supply Chain Analysis and Investment Cluster Development
The Indian government plans to use artificial intelligence (AI) and advanced analytics through the upcoming Statistical Business Register (SBR) to map supply chain linkages, identify investment clusters, and improve logistics infrastructure planning.
Speaking at an NCAER workshop, Statistics Ministry Secretary Saurabh Garg said the SBR will serve as a centralized database of businesses across India, enabling data-driven economic decision-making.
Garg emphasized that high-quality and harmonized data is essential for AI to deliver meaningful results. The government’s next focus is ensuring “semantic interoperability” across datasets by standardizing definitions, classifications, identifiers, and metadata. He also assured that privacy safeguards and consent-based data-sharing mechanisms will remain integral to the framework. The initiative aims to strengthen India’s digital public infrastructure and support more efficient investment and supply chain planning.
