Gujarat Adds Five Gati Shakti Cargo Terminals
News: Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw inaugurated or dedicated five new Gati Shakti Cargo Terminals (GCTs) in Gujarat: Shivlakha and Bhimasar in Kachchh, Devaliya in Morbi, and Chandisar in Banaskantha, with a foundation stone laid for a fifth terminal at Linch in Mahesana.
Vaishnaw also flagged off a salt-loaded freight train from Shivlakha to Mithapur using specialised lightweight stainless steel containers.
GCTs are dedicated freight-handling facilities built to improve first- and last-mile rail connectivity for industrial clusters, ports, and national markets. The five additions strengthen Gujarat’s rail freight capacity across salt, ceramics, chemicals, agriculture, and fertiliser movements, aligning with the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan’s push for multimodal logistics infrastructure.
For manufacturers and logistics operators in Kachchh, Morbi, Banaskantha, and Mahesana, the new terminals reduce dependence on road transport for bulk cargo, cut logistics costs, and improve rail access for industries that previously relied on longer road hauls to reach the nearest freight terminal.
