India, China Fuel Surge in Asia-Pacific Air Travel
News: India and China are leading air traffic growth in the Asia-Pacific region, according to the Association of Asia Pacific Airlines (AAPA).
The grouping, which represents 18 airlines including Air India, said resilient economies and strong passenger and cargo demand will continue to drive regional air transport expansion in 2026.
AAPA DG Subhas Menon noted India’s international air traffic grew 16% in the first half of the year, highlighting its “huge potential.” Airbus forecasts Asia Pacific will need 19,560 new aircraft over 20 years, largely driven by India and China.
The region’s air traffic grew 10% in the first nine months. AAPA also flagged supply-chain challenges and passed resolutions on sustainability, MRO capacity, lithium battery safety, and regulatory harmonisation.
