Gujarat 9000 HP Locomotives Poised to Transform India's Freight Transport
News: India’s Dahod electric locomotive unit in Gujarat will start producing high-speed freight train engines within three years, aiding exports. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw inspected the nearly complete 9000 HP WAG locomotive prototype.
The facility, upgraded in collaboration with Siemens under ‘Make in India’ and ‘Make for World’ initiatives, will manufacture locomotives capable of hauling 4,500 tonnes at 120 km/h, boosting freight efficiency.
Advanced features include the Kavach safety system and regenerative braking for better energy efficiency. The initiative will create over 10,000 jobs and strengthen India’s global locomotive market presence. Production will start soon, with exports expected within three years.
