Sonowal Pushes India–Oman Green Shipping Corridor
News: Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal proposed developing a green shipping corridor between India and Oman as the Indian Naval Sailing Vessel Kaundinya arrived at Port Sultan Qaboos in Muscat.
He said the corridor could deepen bilateral cooperation in clean fuels, green ports, and sustainable maritime logistics, linking heritage with future-focused trade.
The vessel’s maiden voyage from Porbandar to Muscat symbolised 5,000 years of maritime ties as the two nations mark 70 years of diplomatic relations.
An MoU on maritime heritage and museums was also welcomed. Built using ancient stitched-plank techniques inspired by Ajanta Cave depictions, Kaundinya showcases India’s indigenous shipbuilding legacy.
Sonowal highlighted India’s $8.4 billion maritime development programme to strengthen shipbuilding, R&D, and global partnerships.
